Educating Children from 12 months through 8th Grade
Blair Christian Academy
Our History
Blair Christian Academy (B.C.A.) was co-founded by Dr. Della M. Blair and Dr. Karen R.S. Jenkins in 1977 at 1943 West Hunting Park Avenue, home of the Prayer Clinic, Inc. It started out as a facility for day care only, but under the divine direction of God, Drs. Blair and Jenkins pursued their vision of a ministry outreach program that would combine spiritual and educational development and growth to those young people whose parents want them to learn in a professional Christian setting.
Because of increased enrollment, in 1981 B.C.A. moved to 5918 Park Avenue, a very large three story single house which was converted to a school that allowed room to start an elementary school program for grades one through six. While there, the school continued to grow and to glorify God, and on September 26, 1988, B.C.A. relocated to a larger facility at 814 Chelten Avenue where the first middle school closing exercise was held in June, 1989.
We endeavor to build children's self-esteem through a rich and caring learning environment recognizing the unique potential of each child. At BCA, we strive to educate children & support families through God's wisdom. Students are empowered to recognize their own value and unique learning style. They are encouraged through school community service to be contributing citizens who demonstrate God's glory in the earth.
By 1992, B.C.A. had grown substantially. To accommodate the growth, the school moved to its present location at 220 W Upsal Street. The following June we held our first senior high graduation ceremony in the spacious Upsal Street facilities that sits on 2 acres of land.
Through God's leading and provision, this unique educational ministry has flourished. Currently, we enroll anywhere from 75-100 students from 12 months to 8th Grade. Under the leadership of Drs. Della M. Blair and Karen R.S. Jenkins, educators and administrators work closely to touch the hearts, develop the intellect and build the character of young people in a safe, creative and nurturing environment. For this team, teaching is not just a job; it's a ministry.
BCA has also been blessed to see God work in the lives of several of its former students who went on after graduating from BCA to further their education, obtain advanced degrees and return to school themselves as teachers and administrators here at BCA.
We are members of the Association of Christian Schools International, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Christian Schools and the Philadelphia Association of Christian Schools. Our Preschool has been awarded a Keystone Star by the Southeastern ChildCare Resource Developers and the Department of Public Welfare.
As we forge ahead in a new millennium, our goal continues to be to shape this present generation spiritually, academically, socially, physically, and emotionally, to become all that God has mandated them to be.
